3 Reasons to Build Business on YOUR terms

To gain more time instead of more work, is the goal most marketers are pushing for. We all have had the dream of too much money in the bank and no boss. It’s not that it can’t happen but it requires work to get there and put things in place to live that dream. Even then….it is not hands off.

People look at working from home differently than they do working for someone else. A job has certain tasks that have to be done and success is staying under the radar, the boss is happy and you’re not in any kind of trouble. A job is like when you were in highschool, trying to stay out of conflict.

1. Blogging for Business

People start blogging but they don’t brand themselves, they want to brand the company they are working with. That company doesn’t need more branding – you do – so you can be found to market the product.

So … they start writing without skill, seo, format, the right plugins and sit and wait for floods of people to come rushing to their blog.

….. it never happens.

You think you know what is good content

…. but you don’t. Your fans, followers and readers decide what is good content. You spend days on one post, researching, linking to sites and information and then hit the publish button and wait for it to go viral…. it doesn’t.

If you haven’t hit a nerve to get that emotional response, or provided insane content that gives details on how to solve a problem, or ask them to do a task. You won’t see lots of  eyeballs or engagement on your site.

You believe you have to blog daily and by the rule book

When you are building your blog for business, yes there are things you need to do to market it to be seen more. Your blog is yours. It is your personality, it is your words. There is no golden rule that says it has to be 500 words every single blog you write.

However, research has shown that longer post with more keywords and SEO rank better, are shared more, and are commented on more. Since Google rules the blogging world. Google is your boss… you want the boss happy and you want this boss to talk about you to all his friends.

You’re not just a blogger. You’re an expert, a writer, an entrepreneur. Your blog is simply a platform for all that. @problogger

Promote your own blog!

When you take time to write a blog post it is not going to just appear in front of everyone you know. You have to hit the publish button but it doesn’t stop there. You need to send it out to twitter (even if you hate twitter), facebook, linkedIn, Pinterest (so you need an image on your blog post), Google+, and any group that you are connected too that it would not be spamming them. Until you push it out in front of traffic you are not going to be going viral anytime soon.

2. Building time into your life from the results you have put in place

Setting your business up to run while you are away is the fun part and the hands off part that people brag about. It also takes time to build your blog content to the level that it is being shared and used by others. The Free business Training I offer on how to use social media for your business goes along with sharing your blog. In the beginning you are the writer, the marketer, the advertiser, the idea promoter… until you get your brand and blog out there to share with others. Yes… it takes time. To make more time. Will it be worth it. Oh yes……!

I can give you a business plan template… but you still have to do the work. I can give you the best 100 small business ideas… but you still have to do the work.

Blogging nor business is easy. I will never lie to you about that. But it is worth it in the long run if you stay with it and don’t treat this like a hobby. Hobbyist are every where – be different and stay with it. Building time in your business comes after you have spend time building it. You build and write even on days you don’t want too, you don’t feel like it, when you have a headache, the cat threw up on your shoes and the kids are wild. You build.
