You want to start a blog but you don’t know where to start. I am glad you are here because I remember how I felt when I got started with my WordPress blog. I was lost like last year’s Easter Egg and could not for the life of me figure out where to start .
Back in 2010 – I was not geeky at all. I seriously had no idea how to copy and paste. But I wanted to build a website. That was not a good combination, however, I was willing to learn and I did.
I would like to take some of the pressure off and tell you where you need to start this process at Step #1.
People underestimate the power of a blog and what all it can be used for. It is the hub of your business if you are working online. It is the storyline to your journey so you don’t have to repeat it over and over again. You can send someone to your blog to read it for themselves or watch a video.
It sounds like a lot of work but it is really not all that bad. Once you have made the decision that you are going to blog. Your next step is what is going to be your topic. It is not a forever topic, as you blog your topic will change so don’t get hung up on this one task.
#1 you need is a Domain
A domain is a website domain is the name of the website or URL and is sometimes called the host name. I highly encourage my clients to use their first name, last name .com. No matter what business you are going to join or what your topic is your name will always brand you and not someone else or a company.
Here are a few tips on your URL.
* If at all possible use your name, or be creative to use a form of your name.
* Make it easy to spell
* Don’t use your company name in your URL. Some companies have it in their policy not to use it and besides we are talking about you here.
#2 Choose a blogging platform.
Hands down as a business owner you need WordPress because it will grow with you and you own it. Owning your online real estate is the foundation of your business and business growth. It is called a Self-hosted WordPress blog often referred to as “WordPress.org blogs.” (recommended)
#3 Find a hosting company
Finding a company who has enough speed for your site to load, customer service to help when you need it. Bluehost is pretty popular and #1 in nearly all the hosting review sites. Once you have purchased a package as low as $3.95 – simply ask them to install WordPress on your site.
#4 You are ready to blog!
Yes, you will want to spiff it up a little and brand your site to you and your mission – not to a company. That doesn’t have to be done as soon as you get your site. The main thing you need to do is get started writing content for your site. Your topic for your blog needs to be something you enjoy talking about, something you can teach you readers about or share a story line that will be easy to write about to generate a community that follows your blog. Your blog will feature you and your brand up front and your product and company that you can teach about how it can solve a problem for your future customer and business partners.
Yes I know all this sounds a little confusing in the beginning… stay with me.
If you are Ready to get started, click here to head over to BlueHost to get your domain name, and WordPress connected. I refer all my coaching clients to this site to get setup.
Here is a bonus video for you – it will be expiring soon.

wish I had taken Angela’s advice on starting a blog when I began mine. Priceless advice, one of which I just took action on. Although I have two blogs with business names, I purchased a domain with my name five minutes ago.
Thanks, Angela.

I don’t remember how I found you but a few months back I bought your book on Amazon around the same time that I was starting to take action in earnest. For some reason I went in a different direction and I’ve been kicking myself in the patoot ever since. I’m learning so much from you! I paid over $1000 for a prefabricated website and tutorials that don’t have half of the flexibility that I want or the informational value that I’ve gotten from your coaching. After much wheel spinning and wasted effort I’m getting ready to can it all and create my own from scratch according to your instructions. I have yet to read, watch or listen to any of your material that I didn’t glean useful information from. I aspire to be as effective of a leader as you are Angela. You Rock, Lady!!!
thank you Frank! So glad to hear I have helped you !! Let’s keep on rocking
