How to roll a snowball that pays off your debt

Dave Ramsey - Angela & Dale

My husband and I had the privilege to attend a back stage event with Dave Ramsey’s in Nashville Tennessee at the Grand ole Opry. I have followed Dave Ramsey for a long time and listened to his method of money, saving and living with cash in your pocket and not plastic.

We had and hour and half before the event started to speak with Dave on a one to one base with hors d’oeuvres and fruit based waters. He gave us his new book Smart Money Smart Kids” – Hardcover. My thoughts on the book – if you have kids – you need this book. Most parents are guilty me, included of wanting to make life too easy for our kids and give give and give to them. When in fact showing them how to work and make money is the best skill a parent can pass down to their kids.

I completed enjoyed listening to the methods of snowballing your debt until it melts away. My husband and I have been on a mission for the past year and we are in the 90 day home stretch. I am not going to say it has been easy, and getting the “I wants” under control over the “needs” takes discipline. We have bought and paid for cars in cash (and yes it feels amazing) we have gone on trips using all cash, or hard cash to pay off the credit cards as soon as we returned.

We have used the SnowBall method to get all our debts paid and we are down to one left… it is about to eat the dust thanks to side business checks that are giving us the opportunity to smash them quicker than before.

I have seen so many business owners who start making money and have no idea what to do with it. You have business expenses to pay off first but you have to set up small baby steps to make money work for you to reach real freedom and not always working for money. The goal with your newfound income with network marketing from the beginning is setting up your baby steps system.

We have heard the get rich quick schemes, work from home, make money while you sleep. Well it is not totally a lie – if you set you money up to do those things for you. It is like making barbecue pulled pork …that falls off the bone. It has to cook nice and slow so the debt rolls away and stays under control.

While you are growing your new income with your business you have to teach your money to behave. You have to give every dollar a name at the beginning of the month so when it arrives in the account it will know where it belongs from the beginning. When money knows what it’s assignment is – it will not turn into a pair of jeans, or shoes, or a new purse/bag. There is nothing wrong with having nice things…that are paid for with cash not a plastic card. Cash is recognized everywhere you go.

Even Dave agrees there is a time for using a credit card examples: shopping on the internet (when you have cash to pay it off immediately) buying a plane ticket, or renting a car. All those things are ok….as long as….you have the cash to turn right around and pay it off. The goal at the end of the baby steps is to be carrying more cash than cards and not get stuck with debt over your head.

That is true freedom. #Mission2016

Wonder if you didn’t have a balance on your credit card,
Wonder if you didn’t have a car payment.
Wonder if you got your monthly commission check and you didn’t have to give it to anyone. It was all yours and you can now GIVE abundantly.

The bible is full of passages that talks about wealth – the most interesting book ever talks about living with wisdom (how to use your income) and patience (to let it grow).

Proverbs 19:11  & Proverbs 14:29
A person’s wisdom yields patience;
it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.

Proverbs 22:7  The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.

My hope for you is to follow these steps and teach your money to behave, give it an assignment so that it knows how to serve you. I want you to stop being a slave to the lender and live a life of true freedom. #Mission2016

  1. For 5 years I ran a home business, made money and never paid off anything, till this year started off with massive life changes and God himself made a way for me, he knew it was keeping me away living hand to mouth with a debt looming.

My bank put me in overdraft for a hefty sum owed on one CC… it was scary to say the least. But he had everything in control. Because next thing I know the bank is offering me a monthly payment plan + no fees or interest. I’ll be done with one debt in less than 10 months.

Next is my student loan. I’m working my way through this, and I’m thankful for this reminder!! On to financial freedom: getting very uncomfortable.

  2. Use the baby steps link that I provide. Get yourself set up for success. It takes time but the snowball effectss works the best.
    You can do this
