They closed your facebook page

brokeYou woke up this morning, reached over, and grabbed your phone like you do every morning to check your Facebook page. The Facebook thumb with a bandage wrapped around it says ” Your Facebook page is closed.” All those connections, all the time you have invested in building a community all gone – closed – shut down – no longer exist.

This just happened recently to Mike Stelzner with his page Social Media Examiner – a page with more than 380,000 fans! If this happened to Mike, it can happen to any of us and while it’s not likely, it underlines the importance of owning the way you communicate with your audience.

Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are tools to use in your marketing plan – however – we do not own those platforms or the audiences. Our goal is to use those tools to drive traffic to our websites and to our list.

As more people opt-in to your email list, you’ll have the chance to drive even more traffic to your social media pages.
I am not saying that your Facebook page will ever get closed down so don’t panic but if it happened to Mike it is very possible and yes I would freak out just like I am sure he did.

Driving traffic to your email list and building your social media presence at the same time leads to a very nice cycle in your business. The way these tools work nicely together is to send people from your list to your social media and from your social media to your list and to your blog. You are always driving your traffic to places that you OWN and have control of.

Take this as a warning this is something that is possible and could happen. If you are depending on all your Facebook groups, and storing lots of files on Facebook, and only building a community on Facebook – you are setting your business upon quicksand.  Build your list to own your business community
