Becoming A Network Marketing Talent Scout

Become a talent scout and watch how people will be attracted to you. Watch how you will enjoy your team. A Team’s longevity depends on duplication and the type of people that you recruit. Every team builder knows that talent is the lifeblood of an organization.

From businesses to sports teams, music companies to movie studios, everyone is looking for their next rising star. Finding this big star lies on the shoulders of a talent scout.

Who is the talent scout?

You are if you are in-network marketing or business.

Some people have figured out a filter that looks for the type of people they want to have in their business/company. Others are still carrying a mirror around checking to see if people fog the mirror.

Finding the right talent isn’t easy

As the saying goes in network marketing you are going to go through a lot of no’s to get to a yes.

Wonder if you stopped getting no’s because you started looking for the right people? Wouldn’t that be less stressful? The shortage of talent is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges for marketers. Sometimes your talent may not be in the person that you had your eye on but a customer who couldn’t stop talking about the products.

That is the new and upcoming talent that can happen but is still rare.

What is Talent Scouting?

Just like professional football, basketball or any sport organizations that truly succeed in finding great talent are the ones that not only scout to fill their immediate positions but also look for candidates who can potentially be groomed as future leaders.

Finding people who are coachable and open to being groomed to leaders are just as powerful for an organization as finding that hot talent already trained.

Finding the talent that is coachable and willing to take a risk in growing in the business and know that sometimes the best talents can be found in the most unlikely of places.

Scouting Tips

My youngest son tried out for a travel soccer team. There were 200 boys who showed up who all played soccer for their school and some have already been on other travel teams.

50 kids alone in his age bracket. The organization was looking for boys who were team players, who were engaged in the game and how they took instructions for the tryout. My son got the email that he was selected to be on the development team.

The actual soccer team wouldn’t be selected until they have practised together to see the talent among the selected.

They looking for the actual players for the team and a strong bench selection to have “fresh legs” on the field with the same talent that can be developed into a strong team for the future.

Look for character

The best talent scouts are also good people connectors. They aren’t looking for any and every person they meet because they know not everyone would be a good customer or business connection. Realize that paying attention to other people’s lives is the secret to success.

Talent scouts spend time looking for someone they enjoy talking too and they spend more time getting to know the person over ‘making the sale’.

You interview people, and you find out what they want. Then you find out what they don’t want, so you can talk to them about the things that they do want. If they only want products, give that to them. If they want to build a business show them how.

Love your customers for being customers. Love your leaders for being leaders.

Practice collecting new friends even when there is no position to be filled. I learn so many great things when I meet new people.

Personality is as important as talent. I would rather work with someone who has a good attitude and willingness to learn that someone who has the talent but has a toxic personality.

Figure out their skills. Not what you want them to become but what they are looking for and work from there.

Look for demeanor, overall experience, hunger for success, ability to adapt, drive, analytical ability and creative thinking. Teaching someone who has those characters makes teaching a work skill much easier.

Good Talent scouts are happy to pass on the “secrets”.

In network marketing, I have seen many coaches, teachers, speakers and top talent give enough information to keep you hanging on to the edge of your seat knowing they are giving you good content but leaving out a small piece that actually makes the results appear.

Of course, it’s each person responsibility to learn, apply and emerge their own talents in the business to personally grow. As leaders, we need to encourage people to follow their lead but also continue growing their skills to be their best self. We as leaders also need to stop holding back the tips and secrets that help people grow faster. Watching someone follow your lead and put tips you give them into action and grow their business in your organization is not only rewarding for them but also you as the leader.

Share your knowledge with those who are actually going to use it.

I have built an online learning system for internal training which can come in handy for someone with skills and new skills. It’s possible to create a culture of finding and grooming the best talents in advance organization-wide. ( Looking for a team let’s see if we are a match)

When people understand what they need to be doing it is easier for them to follow directions without the confusion. If they have a duplicated system they can use to build your own organization it makes it easier to follow behind the footsteps of the leaders.

Become a Successful Scout

Finding the right talent for your organization isn’t easy. Nor is it fast. It is possible to become very skilled in looking for talent for your team. Working on this skill alone can and will be very profitable for both of you.

Building a team with the right character, personality and talent make business more like a fun hang out with people you enjoy instead of the dreaded work environment that most people want to get away from.
