This week I heard something that stopped me in my tracks:
“Your gift is what comes easy to you that’s hard for most.”
And I thought—more women need to hear this.
Because we’re all out here looking for that “one big thing.”
That special gift we were born with.
And most of the time, it’s been right there the whole time.
We just didn’t think it counted.
Examples of Your Hidden Gift
- Maybe your gift is doing hair and making people feel beautiful.
- Maybe you’re the one who can walk into a messy closet and organize it like magic.
- Maybe you’re the one who can walk into a store and know exactly what someone should wear.
- Or plan the best vacations down to every little detail.
- Maybe you love to cook.
- Maybe you love to decorate.
- Maybe you’re that person who actually loves to clean and make spaces feel peaceful.
- Or maybe you’re just really good at making people feel seen and safe.
These don’t always look like “gifts.”
But they are.
And someone, somewhere, needs exactly what comes easy to you.
Don’t Let Doubt Dim Your Light
I think the hard part is that we’ve all had someone—a teacher, a parent, a boss, a family member, even a friend—say something that made us question it.
For me, it was my English teacher.
She told me I’d never be a good writer.
And I believed her for a long while.
But I wrote anyway.
I’ve written two books.
I’ve blogged for over 20 years.
And that one thing she told me I couldn’t do?
It helped build a business that supported my family.
It paid for college.
It bought cars.
It covered soccer and baseball uniforms.
It filled our fridge with groceries.
And it paid off our farm.
That’s what a gift can do.
When you stop doubting it and start using it.
Here’s the thing about those opinions:
They stick.
They sit in the back of your head and whisper just enough doubt to keep you stuck.
And if you don’t question them, you start thinking they’re truth.
Embrace Your Hidden Gift
So let me ask you:
What’s that thing you do without even trying?
That thing people always ask you to help with?
That thing that lights you up, even when it feels small?
That might be your hidden gift.
Don’t let someone else’s voice drown it out.
