The lost art of following up with a simple card

Disclaimer: SOC cards will make cards like this one – I can not say the Young’s did or did not in fact use the SOC tool to make this card

Over the last 5 years of working online I have met some amazing people. I have stacks of business cards that I could not throw away but didn’t know what I would do with them either. I have names and phone numbers written on pieces of napkins from dinners and scrap pieces of paper from events. Not one of them have made it to the trash. I have a drawer full of contacts of the people I have done business with and met over the years.

I have been super busy going through those names and list and adding them to my online data file to be able to stay in touch with them in the future with something very simple.

A card.

The lost art of following up is a simple as sending a card. Depends on who I am following up with and the occasion. I can even send a small gift with the card in a very simple click of a button.

My business team has grown to over 6000 people and there is no way I can stay in touch with them all on a personal basis but when I do have a conversation with them I like to follow up with a card with a simple message inside.

Business is building relationships that last beyond making a purchase in my business. I have met some of the most amazing friends because of business that have nothing to do with a sale at all. I like to stay in touch with those people as well.

I have always loved to send letters and cards the old fashion way of being handwritten. The good thing is my business is growing fast – the bad thing is I could not keep up with so many cards to send out. With social media, and our world going digital people are not getting cards in the mail any more.

The best way to stand out in a mailbox is to be a fun, friendly card next to a bill. Who doesn’t love those!

Back in the day when you had to go get your film developed to add a picture inside a card you had to take special effort to get to the store to send them off, wait for them to come in, go pick them up and slide a single picture into the card. Now I can take a picture from my phone, open the SOC app and send a card to my business referral, client, or new found friend with a few clicks on my phone and attach the photo to the card all in one step.
