Getting started in a business is a little scary for most people, and they have high expectations of what will happen in the first 30 days. I always try to let them know upfront what is involved but rarely do they hear that part because they are excited to get started.
I like to give them an outline of what to expect to prep them for what to expect.
I want to ask if they have a monetary goal they would like to work too. Usually, the answer is yes.
It is my job to show new clients how to get started in that direction. I want them to know they have new things to learn and to practice to get better.
I will guide them and handhold them as long as they are doing their part. I enjoy helping people and walking beside them. I will never sign them up and never talk to them again.
It’s not my job to make sure they do what they learn to reach their goal. I a not a boss nor a manager; I am a guide to help you along the way. In the first 30-60 days, a new person has a lot of access to me if they use the time to get set up for success.
Sending Facebook, LinkedIn, or Instagram messages is ok – or texting me as long as they use the time to learn and implement.
If they are doing their part at the end of 60 days, they won’t need me to bounce ideas as much. They have access to the Facebook group for touchpoints. They will have more confidence in what they are doing. From time to time, they will still have questions, and I will always be there to help them.
A new consultant sets the pace from the beginning. I will match the connection. If they are texting or messaging me asking questions if they feel as if you are sending too many messages
They are doing it correctly! Especially in the beginning.
A few questions I like to learn about someone who wants to do social selling.
- Why do they want to make money?
Find out what a goal is, for example: to pay for soccer shoes or a baseball glove, or they have a child in travel sports. That was my focus. We needed the extra to help us enjoy the sports activities more.
- Are they willing to learn how to post on social media correctly?
If they have never used social media for business, there is a learning curve. Most people are consuming social media, not creating social media posts.
- What will make it worth it to them to stay active?
They have to be willing to show up. I am not going to make anyone do the work. That is their job.
I like to ask if they are ok if their best friend and family members don’t support them in their business—even a husband/wife who is not supportive. Crazy work schedules can be hard at times, and it is still possible. I know I did it on the night shift.
- What questions do they have, and from there, they have qualified themselves as ready to go.
Today was a quick look at enrollment and how to support someone looking for a business: full-time or part. I always suggest someone getting started part-time and learning as the business grows.
The best thing about network marketing is that you can work it alongside your day job (mine was a night job) and take care of your family without feeling like you have to quit either one.
