Motivation is garbage and you know I have to agree. That is not what pushes me to my laptop every day to work on my business.
Mel Robbins is a powerhouse speaker with one of the top 20 TEDx talks in the world. This former criminal defense attorney turned on-air commentator and CNN contributor exposes the myth of motivation and explains how to make the micro-decisions that will launch you into success in this episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu. You can watch the Youtube video here with Mel.
You will NEVER be ready to be uncomfortable or to do something hard. You will NEVER be motivated to do the uncomfortable things.
You make a decision and absorb the things that make you uncomfortable and go. As you mess up… you make changes.
You learn in the process of the scary things.
As Mel says, our brains are set up for survival, not prosperity. So anytime we think of doing the uncomfortable or something we don’t “Feel Like” doing, we hesitate and our brain goes into survival mode. Basically stopping you from doing that which you know you need or want to and those feelings listed above start to kick in.
If you pause too long or you think about it your brain will give you enough reasons to not take action.
Our brains are set up for survival, not prosperity. So anytime we think of doing the uncomfortable or something we don’t “Feel Like” doing, we hesitate and our brain goes into survival mode.
- I will wait until I have learned more
- I need to talk to my spouse
- I don’t have any skills
- I don’t have the money
- I need to read more on the internet
- I don’t want to go to the gym
- I don’t want to go to work
If we allow the “I don’t want too” to show up in our lives every day we will blink and a year will have gone by and nothing will have changed. Our lives would be a disaster with no food on the table, our health would be in bad shape, piles of laundry would be laying around, the conversation with the spouse never happens or you stop talking at the first resistance.
