This weekend I have had a blast cooking up chemical free food with my new Instant Pot Pressure Cooker. I have always enjoyed cooking when I am in the mood (you know how that is) and when I have the time to do it right.
Many of my friends have posted on Facebook about the pressure cooker, and I immediately had flashbacks of my grandmother’s old pressure cooker that used to scare me as it shook and spewed on the stove.
Amazon Prime had a sale this past week, and I snagged one for $70. It had arrived the day before the local farmers market opened for the week which was perfect timing.
My family and I attempt to eat as clean as possible, as you know that can be a task even in the organic section of the grocery. When the farmer market opens up during the summer, I am there two times a week gathering fresh veggies and fruits. Even with the local market we take the time to clean the veggies before cooking.
This week I had a plan, and I cooked it all in the pressure cooker within an hour of being home. It is that fast and easy to do.
You may be asking….

What is an Instant Pot
In short, it is a programmable pressure cooker with lots of functions from cooking rice to meats to perfection. It is a long way from my grandmother’s pressure cooker. It looks like a crock pot but takes very little water, less than a cup, to steam, boil, or pressure veggies leaving all the good favor inside.
This one tool can replace so many things I have in my kitchen, most of the ones I don’t use anymore and I am sure I won’t now.
The Pro’s of the Instant Pot
Unlike most electric pressure cookers, the Instant Pot has a fully stainless-steel interior, so this is the only part that touches the food. While parts of the exterior are plastic or other materials, these do not come in contact with the food, and there is no Teflon or non-stick surface.
We have changed the type of pots and pans we have in out kitchen and very cautious of what goes into food. The world is full of chemicals that we don’t want to add more of those to our family.
We are a very on the go family. Time savings with good meals is important to us. I can see this little jewel will fit in very nicely in our kitchen.
Safety
I have always been afraid of pressure cookers because of the one my Mammy had growing up. Of course, this still has a steam release you need to be careful. General cooking care is still necessary with this tool as well.
With this being a hot day in July and I was able to cook for an hour without heating up the kitchen was a plus. It smelled amazing without the heat.
My husband and I even talked about taking the Instant Pot with us when we travel since we are eating out less all the time due the way it makes us feel when we on are the go.

For the last five years, we have transitioned from regular shopping and using chemicals in our home to chemical free. Now we are changing how we clean our fruits and vegetables to how we cook them. The product we clean our veggies with is Thieves Fruit & Veggie Soak is a perfect choice when cleaning larger amounts of produce. With the help of DiGize™, Purification®, and Thieves essential oil blends, you can prepare produce for a wonderful meal or right before a healthy snack.
Watch this video it will explain why we are making the change. If you are concerned about what goes into your families belly hop on over to the video – it is less than 3 minutes. Your family are worth 3 minutes of your time.
