The Nurses Voice

From Full Time Nurse to Author and Entrepreneur

I was a nurse, and still am just a retired one. I was a good employee, you know the kind that showed up, did their job and could work on any unit well. My workplace didn’t hand out pats on the back, you just had to be confident enough to know that you were doing a good job. I was that employee that got perfect evaluations with no incentive behind them. (literally no raise and no ice cream). I worked for the state of Kentucky, raises were very few, small and far apart.

I did the daily grind like everyone else. Go to work, go home fix supper, go to bed and repeat the process. Yes, I enjoyed my job most of the time. I worked with amazing nurses who also didn’t get the pat on the back. I worked in a dangerous job where we worked with people straight in from jail, prison, from the street, drugged up with who really ever knew the combo, aggressive men, and women that had nothing to lose if they hurt you. They were already serving time so attacking staff members were part of the day, a badge of honor for some. They knew we had nothing but ink pens in our pocket for protection, no radio in your pocket. Just you and your skills of communication.

There was never a day on the job that staff didn’t get cussed out. It happened so often I could take a good cussing without blinking and even nodded my head as they ranted. (I am pretty sure now that I am retired I would be offering a little bit more feedback than eye blinks).

What did I have to offer other people outside the walls of nursing in mental health? Who was I to start a blog and share my stories? I was just another nursing employee on the payroll.

What was different?

I could feel it in my gut there was more out there for me than the daily shift work. I wanted to see people get results not just see the sick side of patients. Once they walked out the door to go back to jail, prison or to the streets we never knew what happened to so many of them. Some we saw again, many we didn’t.

I wanted to make a difference and show other nurses that there are options to the nursing skills besides the rough situations we found ourself in the middle of the night.

I started writing. More for therapy when I had a hard shift than for attention on the blog. I wrote it down so I didn’t forget, and the stories sounded so far fetched that no one would believe they were true. Sometimes when I read over the blog post I smile remembering and I know a stranger would think it was made up.

Then the emails started coming in

I started getting facebook messages, emails, and tweets from other nurses who read my blog who could relate and thanked me for saying what so many stayed silent about. The blog grew to be read outside the United States and then around a globe in other countries where nurses worked in much more dangerous situations for a lot less pay. I was amazed at the connections.

The Nurses Voice

The Nurses Voice was born…. from the blog post that I wrote in the beginning of my blogging days. It is far from excellent but it has stories that will give you chills to tears. It was my way of remembering both sides of the good and bad of the night shift in nursing. It was also me leaving behind 21 years on the night shift as I went to day side to begin working the education and training department. Grab a copy of the nurse’s voice and leave me your review on amazon. It makes a good gift for a nurse who is about to retire or one that has been on shift for quite some time. It is a good read for someone to realize you also have your own stories.

You are like me, you have a story, a skill, a connection that someone else can relate too. You may not think your story is all that special but no one else can tell it but you. It may not be able nursing, it can be homeschooling your kids, being a single mom who survived on her own, it can be whatever brought you to the place you are today.

As my business grew so did another book. I totally didn’t see that coming. I didn’t know I had one book in me much less another one. A team I worked with on business projects suggested I write out a small ebook on how I built my 6-fgure business using social media and my blog. Once again I started writing and writing.

After several days the MLM Blueprint Secrets to Building your network marketing empire was born. I walk you through the basics of how I got started working online and the tools I used and still use. I have links inside the book to interviews and PDF’s that you can use in your own business. It is more than just a book it is full of business ideas and suggestions to get you moving forward in your own journey.

I got started very part-time using my lunch breaks and my travel time in my “mobile university” driving to and from work. It doesn’t take a lot of time as long as you are moving forward. Get the book and a good highlighter, you need to add this to your library. If you have a team get a copy for them to read and get started branding their business the right way from the beginning. I look forward to your reviews over on amazon – or leave me a comment here on the blog comments.

We all have a message to share with the world – let’s get started! If you got value out of this post use the social buttons to share it to the world for them to see. Leave me a comment. I enjoy reading your feedback and short stories.

  1. It so amazing how when you share your personal story, the right people find and resonate with you. So many people try to be something their not but don’t realize sharing YOUR story is the most powerful thing you could do.

  2. Nice blog. Thank you so much for sharing your personal story. I really loved reading your story. It is quite inspirational. Keep sharing such experiences with us in the future as well.
