Does social media really work for business?

It may come to no surprise that social media changes like the weather in Kentucky (You would have to live here to know what I mean) You can find me on almost all social media channels but I am not on all of them every day. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are my top three.  If you have been on these platforms any time at all you will have noticed how often they change. Usually JUST when you think you have it all figured out.

Business on Social Media

Again you have seen people who are straight up killing it on social media and drawing business and people in left and right – or so it appears. In my opinion being YOU, being authentic should be front and center for your online world.

There are tons of books out there with guidelines and advice but very little meat that works.

Jessica and Ray Higdon co-wrote a book on tips to make social media work for your business the right way without spamming your audience all about your company. Which blows people’s mind NOT to talk about their company on social media.

Let’s change our profession

Yes, that is a bold statement but I wholeheartedly believe that when a community of people come together to learn how to do marketing in a professional way and not puking on your reader’s things can change. Social media is one of the most powerful recruiting tools invented in the history of the world.

How to use social media a freakishly effective way

First of all, you have to believe that what you are about to start doing is going to work. I was working a full-time job with two busy boys in sports and my time was limited to build my business. My phone was always with me and Facebook was new to the scene. I knew in my gut that I could use social media to build my business, even though I was told I couldn’t.

The fact remains today people still are doing social media the wrong way, especially in the network marketing space. You can scroll through your facebook timeline and see who is in a business within seconds of being on the platform. They are posting pictures of their products, posting sales, discounts, promotions. If you will notice the likes and comments are crickets. Who wants to duplicate that?

Is Social Media Duplicatable

A lot of top leaders teach their teams to use social media like a spam fest, and some teach it doesn’t work because they are spammy and it has not worked for them. You will quickly find that when social media is using simple steps the right way it is very duplicatable. The keyword here is THE RIGHT WAY.

FEAR of talking to people

Fear of using social media is real. People are worried about putting their personal life out there, talking to strangers, asking for the sale. Humans are social creatures and have been for hundreds of years. People love to talk, they love to look at pictures, they enjoy peeping into others people world and social media is a platform that connects you to people around the globe doing just those things. It is a platform to be able to reach a lot more people and build a larger relationship circle.

You can spend as little as 30 minutes a day talking to people on social media – not scrolling – actually talking to people. Regardless of the platform you choose to spend your time on keep in mind bring value to the table is the most important skill. Once you learn how to bring value to the people you connect with you can do that on any platform.

Prospecting is Connecting to People

Prospecting is proactive skill where you are reaching out to people directly to start a conversation to see if they are open to your presentation or opportunity. That happens when you have a conversation with someone and listen to what they need to see if what you have to offer will help them.

At the end of the day the purpose of social media if to sell a product, build a team, and yes – make money.

To make that happen you have to talk to people, lots of people.

Attention Connection Challenge

When it comes to social media, the challenge is creating positive attention and connecting in a positive way that attracts people to you. Airing your dirty laundry and ranting on social media will not get the attention you want to have. You don’t even have to have a brand. You need to show up as you (since you become your own brand that people follow).

Focus on what OTHERS are looking for and connect them with what you have to offer. Newsflash – your company is not your brand. You are losing connections daily by branding around your company. Continue to be the person you were before you had a company. Help people from that stance and not from a selling stane. Find out what people need and if you can help them. If not great you have a new friend.

Grab this book

My friends Jessica and Ray Higdon have written a new book that is a short read. 100 pages and power packed with social media tools you need to build your social media the right way.

Freakishly Effective Social Media for Network Marketing: How to Stop Wasting Your Time on Things That Don’t Work and Start Doing What Does!

I have found it is so much easier to talk to people about them than it is to talk about me. People would yawn and get bored really quick if I talked about myself all the time.

Inside this small power-packed book you will find things so simple it will almost make you laugh at yourself on how you have used social media in the past. In the past, I mean past the point of you owning this book.

If you are going to run a business, or call yourself a business owner and use social media start here and get things on social media set up to work for you.

Promise me this one thing. When you have the urge to quit, throw in the towel or throw your hands up because it is too hard or it doesn’t work. Keep the end in mind. Be patient, persistent, and keep filling your pipeline. Over time it will all of a sudden start working for you and you will wonder what you did that made it work. It will be persistent every single time.

Quitting is selfish.

Quitting keeps all your goodness, value, stories, and content hidden from other people who need it. You are the only one who can share those things. Yes, you read that correctly – YOU are the only ONE who can share those things.

As Ray &Jessica Higdon say in their book “Do it until”

  • Until it works
  • Until people start to notice and respond
  • Until you get results and reach your goals and dreams
  • Until you help change the lives of others around you
  • Until…
  • Until…
  • Until

You want to succeed I am here to help you!
