Discomfort needs to be your friend

Discomfort is probably the #1 thing that holds people back from doing something “outside the box”. Standing out from the normal or doing things differently is hard for people to shift into. It is the one significant thing you must do to create a life that looks different from what you have now.

Have you read the book The 5 Second Rule Transform your Life Work and Confidence by Mel Robbins  ?

She talks about what she did that was so simple to change how she moved through her day. She started by simply counting 5.4.3.2.1 and moves forward. When she had a thought about something she wanted to do she moved quickly before her brain gave her time to get scared.

For example, when I am at events and I see someone I want to say hello too. I don’t worry about looking stupid. I just move toward them sticking out my hand and say “Hello my name is Angela Brooks XXX nice to meet you.” Some of it turns into a conversation and some is a smile and hello back. Either way, I pushed through looking dumb for the experience.

Ray Higdon talked a lot about the mindset at the top earner academy in February. One of Ray’s favorite quotes is by Wayne Dyer who says “Don’t let the music die inside of you” meaning follow the dream you have inside of you, that thing that keeps coming up and reminding you it is there. That thing that you wish you could do but think “not me”. The question you should be asking is “Why not me?”

Discomfort needs to be your friend

It is not possible to remain the same and do something different than what you are doing right now. As you learn and grow as a person you think different so you do differently. Anything is possible if you have the nerve to do it.

JW Rowling says “You are worthy of greatness” If you are saying the words someday to anything you would love to do you may as well change it too I never will.

Skills are what you are missing to change your business

At the top earner, academy mindset was a hot topic but also skills you need to be able to make the shift to have a different life. Ray also talked about a break in communication called “BIC” where you are talking about the thing that sells the thing not how great the business is or the company but the benefits of using the products you have. Instead of being the one person who knows it all refer them to a website, video, blog post then follow up. (the one thing people leave out). BIC also shows them you are busy and not there to answer every single question they can think of to tell you no.

Generate the lead then determine the need

Not everyone is going to need your products or want them no matter what you think about them. Most likely they are using products from another company and come to you for a skill you have they want to know more about. It could be your story they connect with. 

Find out what someone needs before you start shoving your products down their throat. You could have just connected with a great friend that knows someone else who could use what you offer instead of them. Breathe life into people instead of sucking the air out of them.

People always ask “What do I do if I follow up and they don’t respond?” Pay attention to the ones who do.

Deni Robinson spoke at the top earner academy and said “Learn to make money while you sleep so you can live while you are awake. She spoke about staying in the business game and learning all you can to live a life that you love and not one you have to tolerate. She has an MBA and a Ph.D. to run her business. MBA = Massive Bank Account because of her Ph.D. = Public High School Diploma. You don’t have to have a college degree to change your life. You have control of changing it with a decision.

Larry and Taylor Thompson are icons of the network marketing profession and they gave a history on how the profession has changed but yet stayed the same with the same skills using better, faster and more advanced tools like Facebook, social media, smartphones. You don’t need to learn more and more and more – you need to put into action what you do know.

You will hear lots of NO’s and when you hear enough of them they will begin to turn to YES. Don’t train your team to do more work – DO.THE.WORK and be the example that leads them to do more for themselves.

Most people have 500 to 1000 people on their friend’s list on Facebook and talk to about 10% of them. You don’t need more people, more time talk to the ones in front of you and use the skills you know right now.

Conversations are super simple until you put a business in the front of your mind instead of the back. Simply compliment and connect with people, listen to the conversation to see if you hear a need that could lead to a product conversation.
