Warning – Why you should not join network marketing

I know this is an odd blog post for you to be reading, but I wanted to warn you why you should not join network marketing. You either googled the question and found this page or you read it in my newsletter. Either way, you are curious. First of all, I want to tell you what MLM or Network Marketing is:

Multi-level marketing (MLM), also known as Network Marketing, is a business-distribution model that allows a parent company to market its products directly to consumers by means of relationship referrals and direct selling (wikipedia.com).

For some very odd reason when people think of MLM they either think it is a scam or it is fast money. Some people in the business have talked a lot of hype of delusions over the years and made people think it is a bad setup to get connected to – so they continue to work in a place they hate and get a raise once a year if the employer decides to give one (and they think MLM is hype) When I worked my job at the hospital I went for 8 years without a raise! I am not even joking. Then the year we got one it was literally 2%.

When someone asks me about my business they have lots of hesitations and questions I am very honest with them. If they say something like “I guess I can give this a try for a few months.” I tell them not to bother. Don’t even reach for your wallet. Anyone who makes the decision to join MLM has to join a company with a solid background. Not a company where someone tells you that you are on the entry-level and you will be set in the perfect positioning in the company. When in fact that is telling you they are new and building from the ground up and have no stable grounds for you to build on.

There are very few businesses you can purchase for under $1000 and are set up to make 6-figures. Most brick and mortar companies cost $40,000 plus…

In an MLM you can get in as low as $160 for a business kit. However, the next step is the commitment of 2-5 years to build a solid business. So what I am saying is this, if you are not willing to pay $160 and learn how to build a solid business over the next 2-5 years do not even sign up as a business. Sign up as a customer and enjoy the products.

The perks of joining an MLM are this…

You do not have to hire a team to run the business office of the company or pay the employees in the office. You do not have to stock products in a warehouse they do it for you. You do not have to have a corporate team, they do that for you. You do not have to hire a marketing team to develop the products information and booklets, they do it for you. You do not have to ship any products out, they do that for you. You do not have to develop the compensation model, they do that for you. You do not have to grow the plants that are distilled to make the products or purchase any farmland to grow the plants on, they do that for you.

It is actually a shortcut for you to tap into a highly leveraged business with very little out of your own pocket to build a solid business for yourself. You can not even start a hotdog cart for under $1000 – not even close! Basically what I am saying is for as little as $160 you can be in a business that will cost you as little as $100 a month to turn on the commission option in the company (called essential rewards)

My husband had a clean air business he had to go to the bank and borrow $40,000 dollars to buy the truck, trailer, and equipment. That was before he had his first job. Then he had to pay for insurance and a worker to help him. It took him 5 years to pay that $40,000 off and lots and lots of man-hours on the job.

In reality, you can have your $160 back in your pocket within a week to 30 days depending on how determined you are to make that happen. I have an MLM guide that will give you all the steps you need to do to make the business work for you. I can not guarantee you an income because I do not know how committed you are to work.

If you are looking to join a solid business and you are looking at this as a commitment of $100 every month for the next 2-5 years then we need to become business partners.

If you are using the language of “I guess I could try this MLM thing.” or “I could try to make it work for a while.” I would suggest that you not even bother.

MLM – Network Marketing is a business that can make an excellent income, if and only if you are willing to do your part and make the commitment to turn it into a residual income. Can you do this? Then yes you qualify. The rest is up to you to be committed.

Another point about network marketing is as you build your business you will be getting paid for a team effort not just your own efforts. I have had people join my team 5 years ago that are still on my team and on active auto-ship for 5 full years and building a team themselves, that I get paid a percentage of. In the 25 1/2 years I worked as a nurse I only got paid for my own efforts when I showed up for work and if I did not show up – I did not get paid any matter if my whole team showed up or not. Nor did I take a day off if I was out of vacation time. In MLM, I still get paid if I take the weekend off, actually, I took 10 days off when my mother had surgery and I was still paid.

This does not have to be a hard model to work. You have to be willing to not care what people think about you joining an MLM. You have to be willing to ask people if they are “Open to take a look at what you have to offer and not get offended if they don’t” The word no is not a bullet it is only a response. The next time you are out to dinner watch the waitress as she walks around with a pot of coffee or a dessert tray and she asks each table would you like more coffee? or a slice of pie? When people tell her no she smiles and moves right over to the next table. That is what you have to do with every no you get …. keep moving.

My advice to you is if you only want to step in a little bit, or you are testing the business model with hesitation do not join. Get a good night’s sleep Sunday night so you can get back to your 30-year career with yearly raises. No, I am not talking bad about a job remember I had one for 25 1/2 years and went 8 years without a raise. I was also working on my MLM for the last 5 years of my job, building my MLM to be able to leave the corporate world.
