I was once a single mom determined to have more than just enough. I wasn’t the flat broke story living on the street with $2 in my pocket. I was the story that had a full-time job as a nurse, health insurance for me and my son. A supportive family and one messed up life. I needed a freedom foundation.
I didn’t make some of the best choices in people to allow in my personal space. It lead me down a path of pain, lots of hurt, confusion, and it felt like I was in a black hole. However, there was a pin hole of light, and I knew there was more. Determined I wanted to find out what the “more” looked like.
No business experience and attended a few of the “meetings” when they popped up 3o miles away. It was very rah rah, and I couldn’t relate to the message. It’s easy for someone who is at the top of the company to talk about how grand it is on top of the mountain but I was at the bottom.
Newly separated from my other half, a 2-year-old in tow, working on the night shift 12 hours at a time. The last thing I wanted to was to have a home party. Well… not that kind of party anyway. I had no results to brag about – so I had lots to learn about business, marketing, and networking.
Freedom Foundation
Fast forward to 2010 I found a company that I could relate too and that made sense to me. I was a blogger that had to shift what I was blogging about like we all do as we build our market. The results were a lot different than when I began.
Born and raised in a small town where everybody knew your business (or they thought they did anyway). I knew I wasn’t going to be able to build a business at home. People who know you on any level in your hometown/family wait to see your results before they raise an eyebrow.
They will be the first ones to notice your failure and support that with the “I told ya so.”
Survival Mode
I was blogging in survival mode – It was random nursing post that told my daily story, but it was not leading them to an opportunity other than just sharing stories. I didn’t have a “call to action, ” and that is a critical piece to the beginning of a funnel.
Once I started to build a list and added a call to action to each post with a free offer. People started coming on board. I was finally growing a fan base!
How could something so simple – yet so powerful – change my business? It allowed me to talk to people who had already raised their hands and said YES. The one word all network marketers want to hear – YES!
Building your list
Building your list is like talking to friends who understand your conversation, and without it, you are constantly looking for people to talk too. Which one would you rather do? Talk to someone you know and wants to hear what you have to say OR look for new people who could care less.
There’s not a part of your business that is simple, easy, and without a learning curve. Learning to build a list is important or you can continue to chase people who aren’t listening. It took me 1,460 days to build a freedom foundation, it took 9,125 days to retire from nursing. I worked when no one was responding, I worked when people weren’t calling and emailing. I showed up consistently until the results shifted.
