My son and I took an adventure the other day and I had a little business to take care of first before we began. What I didn’t know was the whole day was an eye opening message for me.
The Mutual of Omaha http://www.ahamoment.com/ tour was in Bowling Green Ky – which is not far from me and I filled out the form to see if I could share my story. I got a spot!
It was also in front of the corvette plant which made the day a full adventure.
As I entered the big silver bullet air stream it was rather warm inside because it was in the high 90’s and humid in Kentucky that day – I took a seat in the chair and began telling my “Aha Moment” , sharing stories about the people I met in business and in nursing.
My voice cracked….
As I shared a story I realized how much people around me had touched my life and how much it meant to me. The interview was short (thank goodness it was hot) and we stepped out of the air stream. People had gathered around the monitor that was showing what was going on inside the silver bullet. I heard “Great job in there!”
I took my 10 years olds hand to head into the plant for our tour of the museum of corvettes. We smiled as we walked in with all the glamour around cars and the way people were admiring them.
Before we took the tour we had to sign a form releasing the corvette plant of any responsibility if we choice to go in a see the room where the sink hole caved in – sucking in many of the cars on the show room. Two remain inside and were not able to be retrieved.
We walked around the big gapping hole in the floor – all under roof and nothing changed the structure of the dome it was under. Odd …
Leaving the sink hole room we entered the new museum just recently added for the cars that were sucked into the hole that they were able to bring out…. dirt and all.
I was amazed at the damage – the value of the cars (like the sink hole cared)
It hit me in the middle of the Bowling Green Ky Corvette Plant Museum – they are still the famous plant that makes all types of corvettes for the collectors and fans of cars. They are still the who they have always been – the sink hole didn’t change their story – it became part of who they are. Business continued as usual and they added a new room for the “new” cars…. the damaged one.
They blended their story from brand new, to damaged, to collectors to glamorous.
Just like I do in my business… I blend my life into my business and I teach others how I am doing that.
What a lesson I learned today.
I woke up excited about an interview with the Mutual of Omaha Aha Moments Tour and learned that my life lessons of blended business and family is who I am. It is who you are. It is who we all are.
I have the privilege to speak to those around me and show them that their blended life is what their business is made of. Now that was an Aha Moment!
