We took a family vacation in a germ tube
Literally….
It started on the airplane where people cough, sneeze, and farted.

The chauffer had a nice clean Cadillac Escalade polished and cleaned with small bottles of ice cold water waiting for us once we got off the plane. The air was on and it was nice and cool… he coughed twice.
Yes I counted.
We arrived at the hotel that was clean, friendly staff. It was what they called their suite. I called it a larger room. Yes it had a bedroom separate from the living/kitchen area but in Kentucky for that price would have been an apartment.
Did I mention my 6’2 son had to watch his head so he did not beat his forehead on the door facings? Shortest ceilings I have ever seen.
I pulled back the curtains and found this beautiful site for the next four days…ugh….
and this
it was a burnt building. LOL
Day one – I had a business retreat to attend with the amazing Mara Glazer, MBAers Mara, Lena, GeNienne, Zephan, Bridget, Polly, Everett, Julie and Alma. A room full of business minds and ideas that flowed for 8 hours.
That evening we headed down to the Baltimore Harbor and absorbed the beauty of the harbor – the boats – the people – the restaurants, the glamor of the water world.
We toured on the Seadog flying across the water at a high rate of speed with the music pumping. (Watch the video on Instagram) we used the boat taxi’s, toured the world trade observatory and went to all the amusing things we could see around Baltimore harbor in the time we had to visit. Did I mention there were lots of people? People equal lots of germs.
I know you can’t imagine us going to a baseball game but we did! Baltimore Orioles vs the Angels
We spent a day in Washington DC – and rode the Amtrak Train. Once we were in DC – we got on the redline tour bus so we could see all the hot spots and get off the bus to tour the Lincoln memorial and the Unknown soldiers grave sites. More people… very few places to wash your hands … equals more germs. See our pictures here
I had carried a small bottle of hand sanitizer and with 5 people – it did not last long.
We rode on the top of the tour bus so the wind blew in our faces all day. I felt like I was in another country since I could not understand half the people around me.
By the time we got back to the hotel exhausted. I heard someone cough. What the hell? We’re on vacation!
I grabbed my bag of essential oils and returned to the room… “Who coughed?” My youngest son raised his head “Me…my throat is sore.”
I felt like we were running naked through the germ fields collecting all the goo to carry home.

Then someone else coughed….
After returning home we laughed at all the transportation we had used while out of town. Of course we brought home germs – we couldn’t miss them. Taxis REALLY gross me out.

Travel safe – wash your hands and cover your mouth and nose when those around you are coughing in a closed aread
Interesting piece. I thoroughly enjoyed the read.
Though I suppose you were being too sensitive about germs. They are everywhere. You missed your house which like any other (even mine) has lot many germs 🙁
But we carry on as it all depends on our lifestyle and the health regime we take into consideration which makes the whole difference.
What say?
Of course germs are every where – on an airplane – you are bottled into a tight air space that coughing travels but can’t go any where. Being aware of what your hands touch while traveling is important to keep from getting sick while away from home
