Fear is just an excuse

Yes I heard you mumble under your breath today. Actually I heard several people mumble today about how life was treating them. We all do it at one point or another but we often forget what we can do about it.

I have listened to my patients list everything that someone else has done to them and how no one would give them a job, or a better place to live. How their checks were late and it was too small.  Very few of them ever took responsibility to say. “I have lost some good jobs because of my actions” or I have run in with the police because I am repeating the same behavior over and over.

Most people fear change or the thought of doing something different because it would mean feeling uncomfortable.

I can tell you from my own experiences as I have moved from nursing to entrepreneur.  I have stepped outside of every box I was ever hiding in or behind when I stepped into business. It didn’t mean I knew exactly what I was doing, but I knew enough that I had to get moving. What I found out is that if I was scared 99% of the time I was the only one who knew it. (Thank goodness)

The students I now mentor I tell them “Don’t try to understand it just do it and it will make sense as you go”.  It takes working with someone to move forward in anything we do. To become a nurse I had to go to school, to become a business owner I have had to work with other business mentors to learn.

As a wife, mom, nurse, and business owner I can think of more than one excuse to sit back and wait or not take action. What I have learned is that becoming famous, rich, or well known doesn’t happen because someone walked by one day and picked you out. It is because you like the other people went out and made it happen.
