Happy Nurses Week to the new age Digital Nurse

This week is a time to celebrate in most facilities that have nurses employed. It is a week to say thank you and recognize the highly skilled and trained care givers.

This week tell a nurse Thank you!

with that said…

Does anyone take Manuel Blood Pressures any more? Actually palpate  a pulse with their fingers?
Nursing has become a digital world, the assessment process is now done with electronics with the push of a button. Themachine tells a nurse more information now than was ever once possible. More details more accurate   more information about their patient health.

Apps are Turning Your Phone Into a Virtual Urgent Care Center

Sitting at a doctors office I am a nervous fidget. I feel like I am in a germ tube which heightens my awareness. In all honesty I am not sure that is good.
I noticed one of the nurses pull her phone out of her pocket. At first I thought she was reading a text and then I noticed she was researching information through an app. Which made me smile.

The day of the PDR and drug books are fading fast. I remember in school looking up a drug in a PDR which at the time was the best available information.

Yes I know I just told my age. (and I like my age)

Looking for one single medication could take 15-20 minutes plus trying to read the small print!

This new age digital nurse found her information in 5 mins or less, dropped the phone back in her pocket and on her way.

Not all facilities allow nurses to use their phone as a research tool. What are your thoughts about that?

The use of mobile and social is Rising!

26% of Hospitials are using social media 60% of Doctors say it is improving the patient health to have faster access.
45% of the patients share their satification through social media and more is positive than negative.
80 – 90% say they research the hospital and doctors before making an appointment to hear other people’s view of the care.

A lot of medical conditions require much more detail and dialogue between the patient and physician, In many cases it doesn’t substitute for an in-person visit. Plus the web may not always be the best place to go for a diagnosis however people want information and that is where they go.

I have to admit before I made the appointment for today’s visit I researched the Doctor online – I found he was using facebook, and he gives his patients his email address and a phone number to reach him if he doesn’t reply to the email quick enough on his days off. I was pretty impressed.

When I left the clinic the first thing I wanted to do was look for the Twitter account or the clinics social form and let them know I thought they were awesome. I like to tell people who take good care of me thank you – and sharing it in a public place like Twitter allows other people to know.

Come and post on my facebook wall –https://www.facebook.com/AngelaBrooksBiz  I want to know…

Do you look for information about your health on the internet?

Do you research information about your doctor? or hospital?

Have you download a health app to your smart phone?

Until then…
