5 Things You Should Know Before Starting A Blog

Let’s face it.
People don’t get what a blog is.

If you are in business and you don’t have a blog. Stop what you are doing and read this all the way to the bottom.

If you have a business let’s say McDonald’s (since everyone knows what that is) and you tried to cook hamburgers on a grill out of the back of your truck in overalls in the parking lot. You didn’t have the McDonald’s uniform on and you didn’t have the paper wraps for the burgers but you had their meat.

You may have some customers but most people would not buy from you because well you didn’t have your truck branded to McDonald’s, you didn’t have the uniform and to be straight forward. You looked like a drive through town grill that had the verbiage but not the logo.

People look and watch before they ever approach you.

If you are known to start up business’s like Mary Kay one week, LuLaRoe the next week and everything is either under your desk at work or in the trunk of your car. People will not take you or your business serious.

Why you need a blog

A blog is your hub, it is your base, it is the trunk of your car and the under your desk space that everyone can see. The number one reason you have a blog is to generate leads to build an email list.

There are some things we don’t need to say over and over but we can refer someone to a page that gives them the answer they are looking for. The best method for duplication in any business is to be able to point someone in the direction to get the information they need. Your blog is that place.

Build a list

The 2nd biggest mistake people in business make is they don’t have a list.

  • AWeber (Aweber.com) is the best autoresponder / email marketing for any business. No matter what niche you are in, use an autoresponder to keep a good relationship with your customers, prospects, and followers. Always remember, “Money is in the list”

When you partner (not own) an MLM or a network marketing company. All of the customers and distributors that you work to bring into your company belongs to that company. If they close your account or something weird happens and you can’t get logged into your marketing companies website. You have no access to your clients.

Meaning you would have to start all over from scratch. That sounds like loads of fun doesn’t it?

Your email list is where you stay in touch with your readers, fans and followers once they have connected with you through your blog content or from your business transactions.

Generating Content

The first objection I always hear when I mention blogging is “I am not a good writer.” Ask my English teacher wasn’t either and she made sure she told me so. In the meantime, I have written two books and completed 4 English college classes. That they said I had to take – not that I was good at the topic.

You don’t have to write.
You can shoot videos
You can speak into an audio and have it repurposed on Rev.com

The only ground rule you must use for blogging is consistency.

Consistency Is Key To Blogging & Traffic

If you want to build a community of traffic with your blog you must be consistent. Lack of motivation or the feeling of lack of content prevents most bloggers from publishing on a schedule. Some people like to blog daily. Some people like to blog want to twice a week. It really doesn’t matter what your schedule is as long as it is the same time week to week so people know when to expect a new update.

Don’t worry not all of your blog posts have to be 2000 words it can be a short 500-word post that gets the message out to your readers.

When people see that you post regularly on a schedule and email the link to your email list they begin to see you as an expert in content marketing and will look for you by name because of your consistency.

Online business presence

Now that you are building a list with an Aweber, you’re generating content for your blog routinely, you are beginning to building a fan base and a community of people who get to know you through your words through your videos and through your audios they begin to trust you because of your blog. The next obstacle is how do you build a blog. I want to show you a system that I use for my clients. They get the training, a blog and support all in one place.
