This life I live … Joey + Rory

A love story and courage
A love story and courage

Today I want to dedicate this post to a family I don’t even personally know. According to Wikipedia they describe Joey + Rory were an American country & bluegrass duo composed of singer-songwriters Rory Lee Feek and Joey Martin Feek, who were husband and wife. Joey was the duo’s lead vocalist, while Rory sang background vocals and played guitar. The duo was the third-place finalist on CMT’s competition Can You Duet in 2008. That same year, Joey + Rory signed toSugar Hill/Vanguard Records, releasing their debut album The Life of a Song in late October. This album’s lead-off single, “Cheater, Cheater”, was a Top 40 hit on the Billboard country charts

I have followed them for months as the Rory shared their story on his blog “This Life I live“. A blog that will make you smile, and melt with sugar from the love they shared as a family. You will shed tears from the heartbreak of Joey’s illness through pictures and videos. Today I am listening to their music on my Spotify.

This Life I live …

Joey is no longer in pain. She is free from hurting and her body is all that remains here on this earth. She passed to the other side on March 4th, 2016 at 2:30 PM in Indiana where their family is from. They will lay her to rest at the Tennessee farm.

Her fight for milestones was a battle but with each goal she set – she met. It was right after her two-year-old daughters birthday and Valentines day that she decided she was tired of fighting and let go.

Rory had no idea when he began blogging how many lives he would touch. He was telling thier story. In his blog description he wrote “My name is Rory. I want to live a great story. I want to be a better man. I film. I write. I show up. God does the rest…” It gave the world a peek inside their life as she slowly lost her battle with cervical/colon cancer.

The power of a blog

The blog went around the world to share a story from one family. It changed people’s lives, it made people cry, it connected the world to this family like no other  connections could do. You don’t have to be a country star singer to touch people’s lives with a blog. Your story is as powerful as Joey and Rory. You never know who you can help or change from sharing who you are and what you do.

Rest in Peace Joey I know you are singing in heaven …. and I am thinking about you Rory. I know the days ahead are going to be hard. You have so many amazing memories of a beautiful person. Thank you for sharing your life with the world.

Below is her song to Rory “When I am Gone”. Don’t listen to this without a tissue.

  1. You know Angela, we’ve learned a lot about life, business and blogging together. Some of what we’ve learned has been from the same teacher and some not. It amazes me that one simple blog from a stranger can affect so many people in so many different ways. Rory’s sharing their battle with cancer brought back many of my days spent bedside with my first husband, I was but a girl at the young age of 19…young, naive and scared. It is a true gift, an unselfish gift the Feek’s gave the world…something so private, so raw that not many would want others to see. Thank you for sharing this and showing how “life” can connect us with those meant to run with us in business sometimes, too.

  2. It is such a battle… I can not imagine at this age and I could not imagine going through that at 19 Carla. It is not a choice but it takes pure strength to go day to day watching someone you love.
