I no longer need a doctors note for a day off from my job

As I write this post I am sitting in the hospital with my mother following her second knee replacement. I have been here since 8 AM. I am her voice while she was sedated, let her recovery begins. I had the privilege to help her walk to the bathroom 4 hours past surgery for the first time.

As an employee, there were so many days that I could not be there for my family. However, there were times I made the choice to be there and decided whatever consequence it took to be there.

I know not all jobs are hardcore when it comes to time off from your job. I had a supervisor for years that basically didn’t care about family and in her mind – your family was not important either.

When I was 7 1/2 months pregnant my aunt who I was very close too had a stroke, I was beside her bed every single day – even after a long 13-hour night shift, I would sit with her. When it came to the day she was leaving this earth I knew I was going to be with her all the way to the end. I called my supervisor and explained what was going on and I would not be in for my shift. It was not my habit to miss a day I was scheduled to work. The words from that shift supervisor stayed with me for 10 years and … it will never be said to me again.

Supervisor: “She is dying you can’t do anything for her – you need to come to work we are short of staff.” My reply: I can’t remember what I said to her, but I can pretty much guarantee it was colorful.

I was so upset!

I ended up in the emergency room to check on the baby who was very still all day and then back to her bedside.

There were no flowers, no card, no calls to check on me to see if I was ok from the hospital I had worked for over 15 years. It taught me what my value was in their eyes. I made the decision to focus my part time business.

I built my business part-time on my lunch break

My goal was not to ask someone, who had no concern for my family if I could have the week off to mourn or to help my family during hospital stays. I wanted to know without a doubt I would be there for them.

I built my business to a 6-figure income in less than 4 years while on my lunch break at work. On days like today when I needed to be with my mom during her hospital stay, I didn’t ask anyone’s permission to take the time off from my business. I put my business into my backpack and joined her on her stay.

I understand the need to work your job as you build a business. As a former nurse and mom of two has a mission: to help as many women as possible achieve

As a former nurse and mom of two I have a mission: to help as many women as possible achieve financial and time-freedom in their lives.

No matter how many hats you wear, you CAN design the life you’ve always wanted.

Watch this 19 Minute Video as it tells the tale of how 200+ network marketers recently set sail on a 100 Day Journey to Freedom, and how many were able to MAKE SALES and MAKE MONEY for the first time, ever! It took me four years – it doesn’t have to take you that long. Click this link to get the video.

Most people who join network marketing are learning to build their business part time. It is something that is totally doable. It gets even easier when you have someone holding your hand and showing you the right path to take. One of the things that helped my business move from the turtle lane to the fast lane was coaching. Learning from someone who could guide me. Click this link to get the video.

  1. Thanks Angela, this post hit me in a very emotional way. It reminds me of EXACTLY why I am doing what I am doing. I remember a similar situation that happened to me when my son was having an asthma attack. Thanks for the reminder which was encouragement for me to push on and NEVER STOP!!

  2. What a great place to be to not have to write a note to take a day off! That status comes from months of laser focused dedication to your work and freedom. Thanks for sharing.
