Lemon Essential Oil – Acne Treatment with Essential Oils

Most of us know someone who has fought the battle of acne. Either as a teenager, or girls as that time of the month comes around. Even though there is not a cure and it is a on going problem through several stages in life.

Essential Oils can and do help! Use wisely

There are many essential oils that can help in the treatment and prevention of acne blemishes. Those include tea tree, lavender, geranium and lemon oils. Use these separately or together, as ingredients in skin tonics, steam treatments or blemish lotions. Essential oils can help acne blemishes clear up faster and not become infected, which can increase scarring. Here are some ways to use essential oils for acne.

Lemon has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that have been studied for their effects on immune function. According Jean Valnet, M.D., the vaporized essence of lemon can kill meningococcus bacteria in 15 minutes, typhoid bacilli in one hour, Staphylococcus aureus in two hours, and Pneumococcus bacteria within three hours. Even a 0.2% solution of lemon oil can kill diphtheria bacteria in 20 minutes and inactivate tuberculosis bacteria. Lemon oil has been widely used in skin care to cleanse skin and reduce wrinkles. It promotes clarity of thought and purpose, as well as health, healing, physical energy, and purification. Its fragrance is invigorating, enhancing, and warming. Lemon has been shown to have antidepressant effects in research done by Komori, et al.,1995. It may also help brighten a pale, dull complexion by removing the dead skin cells. It serves as an effective insect repellent and works well in removing gum, wood stain, oil, and grease spots.

Lemon (Citrus limon) has a strong, purifying, citrus scent that is revitalizing and uplifting. Lemon consists of 68 percentdlimonene, a powerful antioxidant. It is delightfully refreshing in water and may be beneficial for the skin. Lemon may also be used to enhance the flavor of foods. Lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the rinds of lemons. Jean Valnet MD estimated that it takes 3,000 lemons to produce one kilo of oil. In his book, The Practice of Aromatherapy, Valnet wrote that lemon is a tonic for supporting the nervous and sympathetic nervous system.* Lemon has an approximate ORAC of 6,619 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter.

Lemon essential oil is highly anti-bacterial and acts as an astringent, an antiseptic, a disinfectant, and a styptic that stops wounds from bleeding. It becomes an excellent remedy when used in a compress or as a cleanser for treating bleeding wounds. Use Lemon directly on the cut as a styptic to stop the bleeding and also disinfect the cut.

A Super Happy Teenager:

My 15 year old son who loves to eat – and he loves to eat lots chocolates – came to me with his face broke out in a mess. He said “Mom look in your oil book and see what I can use on my face”. He tried Lemon Oil. He rubbed it straight onto his skin with out any diluting and woke up the next morning with most of the blemishes gone! After two days he has clear skin. Needless to say he keeps that oil in his bathroom now.

*I had to smile when he was packing for a baseball tournament in Disney with his oil in his hand and ask if he could take that with him just in case. It is non expensive and the results are fast.

* When I read Angela’s story I figured the Lemon Essential Oil was worth a try. I whipped out my Lemon Essential Oil and applied it directly to the red, puffy areas of my face and neck, where I always break out during that ‘certain time of the month’. When I got up the next morning I almost forgot about my face because it felt so much better–the redness was almost completely gone and my face didn’t ache! Today–two days later with just two applications of the Lemon Essential Oil my acne breakout is completely eradicated! Needless to say I am a very happy customer! ~Elise Adams

* I have to say thanks for the recommendation for using lemon oil on acne. I’ve been putting it on for 2 nights now and I’ve noticed that not only is the redness going away but my skin feels softer too. It seems as good as a microdermabrasion treatment but way cheaper ~Jennifer Rosbrugh~

One happy teen sends BIG thanks to Angela!!

My granddaugther kaitlyn has had horrible acne for a couple of years and so we have been monthly customers of the popular product all the stars recommend on tv…you know the one I mean…the long 3 step process 2 or 3 times a day…anyway it has at times helped somewhat but during that special time of the month NOTHING!

Well, it is now that time of the month and she was in tears last night…her face was a mess. I told her about Angela’s son and got out the Lemon oil…a few drops on a cotton ball and she woke up this morning saying OMG! Gone! All but a few minor blemishes!!

She just went into my bathroom to look again, came out and said “Can you send a thank you to Miss Angela for me!” Sooo happy and excited! So thanks Miss Angela and Young Living!!
