My husband and I sat on the couch and stared at the TV as young Felix Baumgartner began a fearless journey that he wanted to complete and he held nothing back preparing for this jump. I became interested in who was Felix – what was his story and what was pushing him to step out of his own comfort zone to complete what no one else has ever done. In an interview he stated “I want to break the speed of sound no matter what it takes,” Baumgartner said. “I’m willing to go the extra mile.”
I found his bio and it is as follows:
Born in Salzburg, Austria in 1969, Felix began skydiving at the age of 16 and polished his skills as part of the Austrian military’s demonstration and competition team. In 1988, he began performing skydiving exhibitions for Red Bull. The company’s out-of-the-box thinking and Felix’s adventurous spirit clicked, and they’ve collaborated ever since.
By the 1990s, Felix felt that he’d gone as far as he could with traditional skydiving, so he extended his canopy skills with BASE jumping – parachuting from a fixed object or landform. He finds that the lightning-fast reflexes and precise techniques required by such low-altitude feats also enhance his high-altitude skydiving technique.
Felix has made world-record BASE jumps and has been nominated for a World Sports Award and two categories in the NEA Extreme Sports Awards. He is also a prominent advocate for the nonprofit Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation. And, while he acknowledges that the Red Bull Stratos mission is a step into the unknown, his determination to reach the edge of space and break the speed of sound is unshakable. “If Red Bull Stratos is successful, we can share data that hasn’t been available ever before,” Felix states. “I would be proud to be able to make such a contribution.”
I have worked for the last 2 and 1/2 years on building a business from home that has gone through major changes and been over several hurdles that were holding me back. I had to push past things that my mind was overseeing as impossible or maybe it would happen for someone else. As Felix but far from the same dangerous mission – things in your life happen because you make the effort and head in the direction of the things you want to change no matter what. After driving the same highway for 23 years this October 20th and praying daily for the doors to open and business to start heading into the direction of my dreams, I pushed and worked until the door pops open. Nothing happens in your life without a push – a focus – and moving in that direction.
The things that Felix was doing to capture the nation’s attention took years and years of practice, planning and hard work to get to where he stood on October 14th 2012. I mentioned to a friend that in the hospital I worked we admitted and medicated the ones that tried to jump from a building and he was jumping with a pressurized suit to become the first human in free fall to break the sound barrier.
What is holding you back? What are you afraid? Why will you not move in the direction that will make your dreams come true? You don’t have to jump on National TV to change the world. You just have to be willing to start moving out of your own comfort zone. Get Moving click this link!
